Tall Fescue Seedling Growth as Affected by Postemergence Herbicides

The objective of this greenhouse study was to evaluate tall fescue ( Festuca arundinacea ) seedling growth when seeded after herbicide application. Herbicide treatments included a nontreated control; 1.19 lb/acre 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) + 0.32 methylchlorophenoxypropionic (MCPP) dicamba; 0.75 quinclorac; and 0.06 halosulfuron-methyl. Seeding done at 0, 3, 7, or 14 days application soil media. Two identical experiments were conducted in the greenhouse: Expt. 1 from January March 2 May July (temperatures higher). dates did not influence growth. Average dry shoot weight reductions root caused by postemergence herbicides 2,4-D MCPP dicamba (33% 27% 2), quinclorac (30% 37% halosulfuron-methyl (51% 2; 81% Expts. 2). Although these before seeding field may result no visual impact, they can impact growth, particularly under higher temperatures.
